Hello! My name is Dr. Alyson Kaneshiro (she/her). I founded Learning Specialist LLC in early 2021 because I wanted to expand my coaching beyond the school setting where I worked full time, to include students with different identity stories, backgrounds, and learning experiences.

Over the past few years, I have continued to work with students in the Bay Area and have expanded my practice to supporting fellow educators and school leaders interested in improving their learning support at the individual, team, and systems level to promote greater equity for our students with learning challenges. 

My passion for student support is rooted in my lived experience as a twice exceptional student navigating the confusing stress of both excelling in my gifted and talented program, while failing 7th grade algebra at my public school in the late 80's and early 90's; a time when I didn't have the language or support to advocate for my learning or get the help I needed as a girl struggling in math that teachers lovingly stereotyped as a "good student".

As a lifelong educator, it is my mission to continually improve the student support systems I find myself in and share what I have learned with others to encourage them to do the same.
